Construction PQQ
Construction PQQ requirements, explained for freelancers
A prequalification questionnaire (PQQ) is how main contractors and clients check that a supplier, including a freelance professional, is competent and properly set up before they engage them.
Requirements vary between companies, but the same core areas come up again and again. Here is what to expect, and how to keep your answers ready.

How to prepare your PQQ evidence
Keep current copies of your insurance schedules, cards and certificates in one place, with their expiry dates, so you are never caught out by a lapsed policy.
Write a short summary of your recent projects: the client, value, programme and what you were responsible for. Ask referees in advance if they are happy to be contacted.
If you work under the CDM Regulations 2015, be ready to explain your duties and how you meet them in your role.
Questions
Is a PQQ the same as a tender?
No. A PQQ comes before a tender or engagement. It checks that a supplier is suitable, and only suppliers who pass are usually invited to price or start work.
Do freelancers really need to complete PQQs?
Many main contractors ask freelance and self-employed professionals for prequalification information before they start, especially for safety-critical and management roles.
Can I reuse my answers?
On 3lanse you complete your PQQ once, keep it up to date and share it through your profile. A 3lanse reviewer checks it, and accepted PQQs show the PQQ Compliant badge.
